The five pillars of Islam are the mandatory acts which need to be fulfilled under all circumstances.
The most important act onto which the building of Islam rests is the Oneness of Allah also known as Tauheed. It is the first pillar of Islam which provides the base for all other acts. Oneness of Allah means that there is no God but Allah and no one is comparable with Him. Every Muslim has to believe in the concept of one Allah.
He is the creator of this universe and He is only One. Once a person believes in the concept of one God then he would be doing other acts following it. The second pillar is known as Salah or Prayer. Next is Fasting or Saum. A Muslim has to keep fasts for the Holy month of Ramadan. From dawn till dusk, he needs to fast to submit His will to Allah. The fourth pillar of Islam is Zakat or giving charity. A portion of a rich person’s wealth is given to the poor people to provide them with the basic necessities of life. After giving Zakat, the last pillar is the Hajj or Pilgrimage. This act of worship needs to be done once a life and only those who can afford it physically and financially needs to do it. This act washes away all the previous sins of the Muslim and makes him as pure as a newborn baby.
